Protected is granted to original literary, artistic or scientific creations set out in any format, such as books, documents, musical compositions, plays, choreographies, audiovisual works, sculptures, paintings, drawings, models, maps, photographs, computer programmes and computer files.

It also protects artistic interpretations, phonograms, audiovisual recordings and radio broadcasts. Ideas, procedures, operating methods or mathematical concepts in themselves are excluded, but not the expression of those concepts. Legal or regulatory provisions and their respective drafts, decisions taken by legal bodies and acts carried out by public bodies and the translation of such texts are also excluded.
